Mad inventions – swissinfo

The Inventions Fair in Geneva had 765 exhibitors this year, demonstrating 1,000 new inventions. It’s considered to be the biggest and most important show of its kind in the world. For the first time, there was a pavilion dedicated to 14 universities and research centres from eight different countries, including Saudi Arabia, Syria and Ethiopia. The Lighthouse – swissinfo

Leutschenbach School, north of Zurich, is a radical steel structure with a pure glass façade. It’s located in Schwamendingen, an area caught between post-war romanticism, dense new development and industry – no easy location for a school. To overcome this challenge, everything is under one roof: gym, hall and classrooms.

Drawing conflicts

Renowned Swiss-Lebanese cartoonist Patrick Chappatte is presenting a new animated documentary at the 2011 Visions du Réel film festival in Nyon. “Death in the Fields” describes the impact of cluster munitions in Lebanon, which Chappatte witnessed during travels in the country in 2009. Chappatte is known for his political cartoons for leading international and Swiss newspapers, such as Le Temps, Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the International Herald Tribune. (ICRC)
