Swiss tennis star Roger Federer is not a robot. He has admitted to succumbing to a bout of mononucleosis – glandular fever – and blames the dread disease for his bad start to the year. (Who has he been kissing lately? I thought was a teenie illness.) His “horror” stretch includes losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semi-finals in January and crashing out in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships last week.
The 26-year-old “veteran” said on his website he had been diagnosed with glandular fever, a virus whose symptoms include fever, a sore throat, and swollen lymph glands, during a stay in Switzerland. And that losing games had nothing to do with losing his magic touch.
Now that all is explained and that Roger is back to business, the virus nothing more than a bad memory, his adversaries had better start worrying if he gets back into shape (he says he’s working hard – is sport work though?). The season has just begun…
